Summary

I kind of took the plunge and kicked of 2022 reading with reading LOTR…Full disclosure: I have expressly and tacitly avoided LOTR because readers and fellow authors constantly referencing it an overbearing shadow burden in the fantasy realm。 Following the same logic as thinking of Star Wars when thinking of wars happening in space; a complete saturation that cannot be avoided。 And I finally do in fact agree! But now if anything, i bow to the authors that attempt at all in fantasy and deviate from Tolkien-esk ways, because it’s damn well hard!In terms of the technicalities in the book, it reads like a Dickinson novel。 Which, i anticipated, but can understand when people state it to be boring at times, given peoples perception of fantastical things to be palpable and almost video-game like。 The pacing was alright, and was surprised at how domestic it was at times! My only criticism really is the lack of women。 Like… at all。 The few that were mentioned were secondary characters to the secondary characters and didn’t rouse any internal spark in me whatsoever。 I am not about to jump on a soap box mind you but i found him inadvertently feministic。 And the book wasn’t published in the Middle Ages for crying out loud it was published in the late 40s。 But back to the positive and evaluating the source material alone, the cast of main characters were all loveable (even Aragorn hehe)。 I will def be checking out some more world building books in Middle Earth, as that was the driving factor in me giving it a 4 star review。 。。。more

I have heard about the famous story of the Lord of the Rings for years now。 I’ve always been too hesitant to read it, thinking I’d grow bored easily。 But, these past weeks I sat down and read the first book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy。 Although I expected it to be really interesting and fun, I found the book to be a little slow and long。 On the other hand, I did enjoy the plot and the characters in the book: Frodo, Galdalf the Wizard, and Sam。 I thought the concept of the ring and the role I have heard about the famous story of the Lord of the Rings for years now。 I’ve always been too hesitant to read it, thinking I’d grow bored easily。 But, these past weeks I sat down and read the first book of the Lord of the Rings trilogy。 Although I expected it to be really interesting and fun, I found the book to be a little slow and long。 On the other hand, I did enjoy the plot and the characters in the book: Frodo, Galdalf the Wizard, and Sam。 I thought the concept of the ring and the role it played in the story was interesting and significant。 I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loved the Harry Potter series or are just interested in starting a new book series。 。。。more

Great, as always。 Reread after rewatching the films。 Was able to read more slowly for once (usually ripping through in anxious suspense), so better able to appreciate the poetry and songs, the history and mythology, and the humor。

I still like the Hobbit better but this all in one book 50th anniversary edition of The Lord Of The Rings is very nice。 Slipcover is nice and the book with gilded pages is great too。 Perfect edition to have with a map inside。 This is the version I recommend for fans and new readers。

Why do I love The Lord of the Rings so much? Why is it one of my favourite book (and movie) series? I Kept asking myself as I tried to write this review。Ever since I’ve first read The Lord of the Rings many years ago, I have been in love with it。 Due to Tolkien’s writing style, it was not an easy read for the child I was back then; but the story, the characters, and the message spoke to me so strongly, it did not matter。 Then I watched it, though much later (only about a year and a half ago, I t Why do I love The Lord of the Rings so much? Why is it one of my favourite book (and movie) series? I Kept asking myself as I tried to write this review。Ever since I’ve first read The Lord of the Rings many years ago, I have been in love with it。 Due to Tolkien’s writing style, it was not an easy read for the child I was back then; but the story, the characters, and the message spoke to me so strongly, it did not matter。 Then I watched it, though much later (only about a year and a half ago, I think), and now I am on my first reread。 Which I am enjoying it very much。 But let’s go back to the question I started with and want to try and answer- why do I (and so many others) love LOTR so much? What is it about this work from J。 R。 R。 Tolkien that has generation after generation hooked and sucked into this (sometimes, due to the writing style (like all his descriptions, etc。), not so easy to read) story? I think there are two reasons: first, most everything The Lord of the Rings does, it does it masterfully- be it creating characters, working with the lore and many different races, creating beautiful, immersive world that feels like an adventure and like home both at once, writing dialogues, writing humour, writing tragedy, writing friendships, writing sacrifice, writing war and battles; and more, these books got it down 100%。The second reason I think, is how easy it is for most to find something personal in there to relate to, and to make one feel understood, or inspired。 Something to care about。 Be it the big overarching theme and the story。 Or something smaller- like a certain character or arch。 For me it is both of these。 Yet the most, it is the four hobbits and their stories。 Most of all the character of Sam。 He is an inspiration to me on so many levels。 He is selfless, brave, caring, witty, strong。 And the best friend one could wish for。 And there you have it。 Those are my answers。 And maybe there are more。 I am almost certain there are。 And I can’t wait to discover them by the end of this reread or in the next one。 If you have not read this work of art, I get it。 It is not to everybody’s taste。 But I do not kid when I say it is 5/5 book series and an amazing fantasy, which inspired most of this genre after it, and which deserves all the love it gets。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book even though I didn't expect to。 There is so much hype surrounding this trilogy that one begins to wonder if ever it could live up to its reputation。 Well guess what。。it surpasses everything I've ever heard about it, and this trilogy will forever be one of my favorite works of fiction。 Thank you to all who convinced me to read The Lord of the Rings。。without you I would never have attempted such a daunting task。 I recommend The Lord of the Rings to all and sundry。。it's I absolutely loved this book even though I didn't expect to。 There is so much hype surrounding this trilogy that one begins to wonder if ever it could live up to its reputation。 Well guess what。。it surpasses everything I've ever heard about it, and this trilogy will forever be one of my favorite works of fiction。 Thank you to all who convinced me to read The Lord of the Rings。。without you I would never have attempted such a daunting task。 I recommend The Lord of the Rings to all and sundry。。it's more than worth the time spent reading the 1,200 some pages。 I only wish I could give it 10 stars。 。。。more
